Foundation The Quill (full name in Dutch: Stichting Verslavings- en Psychosociale zorg "The Quill" St. Eustatius) was established in 2007 with the goal to create an easy accessible facility for addiction and psychosocial care on the island of St. Eustatius.
With the new constitutional position of St. Eustatius (and Saba and Bonaire) as per 10 October 2010 the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport of The Netherlands is responsible for the psychiatry and addiction care on the three islands. Commissioned by the ministry, Mental Health Caribbean is the organisation that carries out this care. The president of Foundation The Quill was closely involved in the whole development process. In the meantime a facility is realized.
At the moment the main point of attention of the foundation is the initiation of structural scientific (prevalence) research on psychiatry and substance use on the Winward Islands St. Eustatius, Saba and St. Maarten.
Fundraising for mental health care St. Maarten
Foundation The Quill has launched an action to help organizations for mental health care in St. Maarten after the disastrous effects of hurricane Irma. These include the Mental Health Foundation (MHF) and the Turning Point Foundation for Rehabilitation. These two institutions also provide services to the inhabitants of Saba and St. Eustatius.
